TV Series: Doctor Foster Left Fans Craving For Third Series After An Open Ending

Suranne Jones who played psycho Gemma has finally addressed rumours that a third series of “Doctor Foster” is in the works.

The actress has said that there are “no plans” for another season.

Talking on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “There are no plans because everyone is busy and I am working all of next year so I just don’t know.”

Viewers were left desperate for a third series of the BBC drama after a shock twist left them hanging in the finale.

It was misery all round as warring ex-couple Gemma and Simon Foster both ended up losers when their son Tom ran off.

And it was left completely unanswered as to whether they’d ever find the troubled teen.

Suranne, 39, previously revealed that writer Mike Bartlett has already plotted an outline for her character’s next chapter.

But it remains to be seen if the BBC will order another follow-up and Suranne said before the finale: “If people are still interested in 2019 in that third story, then maybe.”

Next year Suranne is starring in West End thriller Frozen, which will be followed by Sally Wainwright’s new TV drama Gentleman Jack.

Suranne also told Graham that fans of the show will stop her anywhere to talk about the steamy sex scenes.

She explained: “I was walking in the woods with my two-year-old just after the hate sex scene aired and we are singing and picking up sticks…

“We passed some people who wanted to stop and chat about the [sex] scene.

“And, I’m like, ‘Perhaps not right now.'”

And she admitted that fans are shocked when they meet her in real life.

“People are quite disappointed that I am quite nice when they meet me and not mad like my character,” she said.

In the series two finale, it seemed as though Simon was ready to kill himself, trying it on numerous occasions, including standing near a busy road and overdosing.

But, as Gemma managed to calm her ex down more than once, Tom took the opportunity to run away without warning.

As a frantic Gemma realised her only child had vanished, she checked her voicemails, which included one from the damaged teen.

Doctor Foster fans were stunned by the ending, and are desperate for a third series.
