Amaechi Emerges President Buhari’s 2019 Campaign Director, Tinubu Oppose

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi as his 2019 reelection campaign director-general, ThisDay reports.

Amaechi, who was Buhari’s campaign director in 2015, has reportedly been issued a letter of appointment to pionier the 2019 election campaign as director for Buhari’s reelection bid.

President Buhari who was reported to not have disclosed his intentions for 2019 general elections has according to ThisDay informed Amaechi, and a group know as the “Buharists,”, formed by Amaechi and loyalists, for 2019 intention to run.

The Buharists group was reportedly formed by Amaechi during the height of growing criticism against the president, in order to turn around the narrative around the president, and includes governors, ministers, and chieftains with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amaechi is expected to make public his appointment soon, and has begun to consult with critical party members and stakeholders for the president’s reelection in 2019.

A source who spoke to ThisDay said APC National Leader Bola Tinubu told those who approached him regarding the reelection of the president that although the South-West’s backing of Buhari in 2015 was based on trust, the conditions for 2019 would involve proper negotiations.

Although it is almost a fait accompli that the president would run in next year’s election, sources in the APC are nonetheless very concerned that the contest will be much tougher due to the disappointment, mistrust and discontent with the administration by a large section of Nigerians.
